KendoStar Beginner Kendo Starter Set

A simple, high quality starter set for new Kendoka, built around the essential equipment needed to begin regular Kendo training with confidence.

Starting Kendo can feel confusing, especially when trying to work out which equipment you actually need. This set has been designed to make that first step much easier, giving beginners a practical, reliable, and carefully selected set of core items without unnecessary extras.

What is Included?

  • 1 x KendoStar Essentials Single Layer Cotton Kendogi and Synthetic Hakama
    A comfortable and practical uniform set, ideal for beginners starting regular Keiko.
  • 1 x Zip Up Style Nylon Kendo Shinai Bag
    Designed to carry up to 3 Shinai and 1 Bokken, giving you useful extra space as your training equipment grows.
  • 1 x Practice Shinai
    A reliable practice Shinai suitable for regular beginner training.

Uniform Upgrade Available

You can upgrade the included uniform to the KACHI Elite Featherweight Uniform, a lighter, easier care option that is especially popular for regular training, seminars, travel, and warmer Dojo environments.

Recommended for Beginners

We strongly recommend adding a spare Practice Shinai. Shinai naturally wear with use, and having a second one ready means you are not left unable to train if your main Shinai becomes damaged or needs maintenance.

Optional Add Ons

You can customise your starter set with useful extras, depending on your Dojo requirements and how complete you would like your first Kendo equipment setup to be.

  • Spare Practice Shinai, recommended for beginners
  • Basic Bokken, suitable for Bokuto Ni Yoru Kendo Kihon Waza Keiko Ho and Kata practice
  • Deluxe White Oak Bokken, a higher quality option with a more traditional feel
  • Deluxe White Oak Bokken Set, ideal if your Dojo requires both standard and short Bokken

Tsuba and Tsubadome Included

All Shinai and Bokken ordered with this set will come with the appropriate Tsuba and Tsubadome, so you have the correct fittings needed for use.

Please check with your Dojo or instructor if you are unsure which optional items you need. Requirements can vary depending on the Dojo, especially for Bokken use and Kihon Waza practice. You are also very welcome to ask us for guidance by emailing mail@kendostar.com.

Please note that products may vary slightly from photographs. The photo shows the set with the Basic Bokken option added, which is not included as standard unless selected.
