Excellent for Shiai, grading, and regular Keiko KURENAI is a strong choice when you want a traditional appearance with a lighter, more practical feel.
Lightweight Shoaizome Kendogi
The KURENAI Kendogi is made using a special soft mesh lining, which makes it extremely soft and comfortable to wear. It also helps sweat evaporate more easily, meaning the Kendogi dries quickly after practice.
It is perfect for Kendoka looking for a traditional yet light Kendogi for tournaments, grading, or regular training, and is a fantastic alternative to a synthetic Kendogi.
The Kendogi also features a vertical back seam for increased comfort.
What is Included?
This product includes 1 x KURENAI Shoaizome Lightweight Kendogi.
Important Aizome Care Note
Because KURENAI is dyed with genuine Aizome, the colour will bleed. The indigo dye may rub off or stain objects, other clothing, and the wearer’s body. This is a normal and natural feature of genuine Aizome Kendo uniforms.
Please take care when washing. We recommend hand washing separately in cold water, without soap or detergent.
Traditional Look, Lighter Feel
KURENAI is ideal for Kendoka who want the appearance and character of genuine indigo dyed cotton, but prefer a Kendogi that feels lighter and easier to use in regular practice.
Cool and Comfortable
The lightweight single layer construction and soft mesh lining make this Kendogi especially useful for warm Dojo, summer Keiko, seminars, and regular training.

Customer Reviews

I just love the shade of this uniform set!!!! This is how they look after putting them in water and letting them dry 100% recommended!!!!!
Really good product and a decent price.
I've now used this gi 3 times and I haven't posted a review until now because I like to see how things are in use before I do a review.
It fits really well, is extremely comfortable and is brilliant for repeated practices. It really doesn't feel like a lined gi at all because it's so lightweight.
I will buy another one soon so I have two for the summer.
Very happy with this Kendogi. Lightweight but still feels good quality. The real deal Aizome too when you use this or wash it so you get the good ol’ Smurf look!
As for the durability, it keeps up really good, the Aizome doesn’t fade quickly as some cheaper ones could. The Himo don’t fade as quick either.
In my experience it dries very quickly even if the Keiko was super intense; any ripe smell just seems to go away unlike some Kendogi’s that do hold onto it.
If you’re on the fence about this, don’t be. It’s a very good balance between affordable and ultra premium even if it’s for a Shinsa or special occasion, you won’t be sorry.
already have two of them and i love them. highly recommended. they are not super lightweight but the breath super well. Good for training, grading, shiai. all you need!
Excellent kendogi that’s solid value for the money. The inner lining is an interesting feature that will no doubt add to the durability, and the kendogi has a very premium feel. Recommend!
Great product. Felt useable straight out of the bag but gave a quick cold wash to remove some excess dye and have trained twice in it. Lightweight, easy to wear and felt great from minute one. Looks awesome too!
Beautiful and Comfortable
I had forgotten what a cotton gi had felt like as I purchased the Gaia set and had used that for some time. Fortunately, the Kurenai Kendogi is incredibly comfortable so I quickly transitioned to the different material.
This gi is also very beautiful and dries relatively quickly even in the cold Canadian fall. On top of that I am able to warmup quickly in the cold dojo which is a great benefit. I've not worn it during the hot seasons yet but it does hold sweat well so I'm not too worried. That soft-mesh lining seems to do wonders!
I'm tempted to get the kurenai hakama to compliment this great garment.
Beautiful but not cool.
I love this kendo gi, the color, the cut, the quality of the materials and the lining makes it very comfortable. But I find is not very cool for hot summer. I guess the double layer (cotton + lining) results in that, on the other hand is very comfortable.
Ages Beautifully
OK, so I looked back and I'm not sure why I gave it 3 stars, so I wanted to write a second review. ^_^; I've now owned it for a little over half a year and it's my favorite keikogi. The color has aged beautifully, where there was a bit of fast fading and now it's held really well, giving it that aizome depth and interest. The fabric is so soft and the mesh lining makes it impressively protective. I think it is as good protection against stray shinai strikes as my double weave. The backseam makes it very comfortable and the weight difference between it and a traditional double weave is significant. It is my must-use gi for when I'm going to be doing a lot of walking lugging my bogu and I would readily recommend it to anyone who wanted own just one gi as the one to get.
Beautiful, comfortable, not that cool
Appearance: it is very beautiful. I love how it has a proper back seam and lovely traditional aizome coloring.
Comfort: The mesh lining makes all the difference. It feels very soft and comfortable.
Protection: Despite it being a very thin gi, the double layers give it good protection much more equivalent to wearing a traditional double weave than a single weave gi.
Coolness: No. I would not use this as a deep summer gi. The weave is very tight, no air can get in. We cool our bodies by sweating and the air cooling that sweat. With the lining, the sweat doesn't sit on your body and it's irrelevant anyway, becasuse there just is no airflow.
For me, I ordered it because I have to walk more than an hour with my gear on my back. I simply wanted a lighter gi that still looked dignified and this is very light. So for my purposes it is perfectly suited and I am quite happy with it.
However, if you're getting it because you have to train in 30 C weather with no air conditioning, I really don't think this is the keikogi that you want. It's still very hot.
