In this video a young Kenshi asks a panel of five All-Japan-level competitors how he can become stronger at Kendo. Below is my interpretation of their answers — enjoy the wisdom from some of the best!
Mari Suenaga Sensei (All Japan Women’s Champion 2012, 2013, 2022) — “You have to put in double the effort of others.”
Yoko Sakuma Sensei (Women’s World Champion 2012) — “First, set a distinct goal. Then deeply examine what’s required and do your best to achieve it.”
Kiwada Sensei (All Japan Champion 2012) — “Practise with care and check that you are practising correctly every time.”
Furukawa Sensei (All-Japan 3rd Place) — “Train hard, reflect on your actions, and listen to your teacher obediently.”
Hashimoto Sensei (All Japan 7-Dan Champion 2018) — “Effort is essential, but make sure that effort is directed toward practising correct Kendo.”
