The bokuto is has a solid weight (mine is around 570g) and has protective coating. For me this combination is good, as it makes it very durable and easy to care for. My unit has slight imperfections (unevenly carved, a slight scratch/dent at the top). As they are handmade, it is to be expected for them to be not perfect, but it is still too much for my taste- compared to other bokkens I have used in the past. Also the tsuba, that came with it does not quite fit. it had to be filed at the side, but it came too wide at the bottom, so it slides over the notch on to the handle - so the the tsuba ends up slightly diagonal in the final position. Luckily, I had a spare tsuba, which I could file down to a somewhat better fit, but at uneven bulges along the way of the blade makes it a decision between "being to loose at the handle and slide over the notch" or "not going on and off easily".
In summary, the bokuto is still alright, I think. It gets the job done.
The bokuto looks gorgeous, has a hefty weight and tsuba fits perfectly. I only had to deburr the plastic a tiny bit. Would buy another one in a heartbeat!
Nice weight and balance
Nice weight and balance, lighter and more pleasant to use than others I have come across. Although I personally don't mind, mine was stained pretty heavily with aizome dye from my kendogi.
Good value for money
I ordered it as part of a starter kendo set. I thought a lot about ordering a separate wooden bokken but I stayed with the set. It was a pleasant surprise. Good value for money.
Amazing bokuto
Love how it feels to the hand, absolutely soft! good weight, nice balance, basic tsuba & tsubadome and the feel of a bamboo shinai in a bokuto. Strongly suggested for the price.
