The first release in the KendoStar 10 Year Anniversary Series, KAGURA is a limited availability premium Bogu set created to unite responsive movement, dependable protection, and a distinguished traditional finish.

Ten years of KendoStar has always meant more than simply selling equipment. It represents ten years of listening to Kendoka, testing what works in real keiko, and developing Bogu that we would be proud to wear ourselves. KAGURA was created to embody that experience.

Flexible and comfortable enough for regular training, protective enough for demanding keiko, and refined enough for shiai, grading examinations, and special occasions, KAGURA is designed to be the premium Bogu set you can depend on across every part of your Kendo.

A Limited 10 Year Anniversary Release

KAGURA is the opening model in the KendoStar 10 Year Anniversary Series and will be offered in limited availability. Every set is finished with exclusive red KendoStar tags, created especially for this commemorative series.

Once the available production allocation has been filled, further orders may no longer be possible.

KAGURA is made individually to order, and no corners are cut in its production. Please allow approximately 18-24 weeks for production before your Bogu is ready for dispatch. 

Responsive When It Matters. Protective Where It Counts.

Lightweight competition Bogu can feel fast and easy to move in, but that performance can sometimes come at the expense of protection, durability, or suitability for intensive everyday use. Traditional premium Bogu can offer a beautiful appearance and substantial construction, but may feel heavier or require more time to become comfortable.

KAGURA bridges that gap. Its carefully balanced Futon, wide 8mm stitching, and Orizashi construction provide flexibility and freedom of movement, while generous cushioning and genuine Aizome deerskin reinforcements add the protection, durability, and premium finish expected from a serious Bogu set.

The result is a true all purpose Bogu, not limited to one kind of keiko or one special occasion.

8mm Gunomezashi

The wide 8mm stitching allows the Futon to retain thickness, flexibility, and cushioning. Gunomezashi adds closely considered supporting stitches to give the Futon the structure needed to hold an attractive shape without becoming unnecessarily rigid.

Orizashi with Aizome Deerskin

Indigo Orizashi gives KAGURA a flexible, breathable, and comparatively quick drying construction. Genuine Aizome navy deerskin is then used on the Ago, Herikawa, and key reinforcement areas, improving durability and adding a rich traditional finish.

Designed as a Complete Bogu Set

MEN

The 8mm Gunomezashi Men combines substantial cushioning at the point of impact with a flexible Futon that sits naturally over the shoulders. The Orizashi exterior is finished with genuine Aizome deerskin on the Ago and Herikawa for added strength and a premium appearance.

Its lightweight IBB SWV Duralumin Mengane increases the vertical viewing area around the Monomi, making the opponent, Shinai, and surrounding situation easier to see. The Men uses TASTEX MGU antibacterial and deodorising treatment, while Aqua Mieue DC core material helps manage moisture, heat, and odour inside the Men.

KOTE

The Kote are built around flexible 8mm Orizashi Futon, with genuine Aizome deerskin reinforcing the Herikawa and other vulnerable areas. Their carefully formed shape supports a natural grip without making the wrist feel restricted.

The palms use half smoked antibacterial deerskin, selected to combine the supple feel associated with white deerskin and the durability traditionally associated with smoked leather. TASTEX MGU lining also helps control the bacteria responsible for unpleasant odour.

TARE

The Tare uses flexible 8mm stitching, five rows of Kazari, and genuine Aizome deerskin edging to create a strong traditional silhouette without feeling cumbersome around the waist.

Reinforcement at the Himo connection points improves durability in an area placed under repeated tension, while finely tapered Himo ends make the Tare easier and more comfortable to tie.

DO

KAGURA includes a black 50 piece style reinforced synthetic Do as standard. The series exclusive Kuro Fuki Urushi Premium Fiber Do-Dai and our wider range of custom Do Dai can also be selected to create a more individual set.

Anniversary Series Do Options

KAGURA can be ordered with its standard black Do Dai or personalised with a different finish. The Kuro Fuki Urushi Premium Fiber Do-Dai has been selected exclusively for the 10 Year Anniversary Series and is available as an optional upgrade. Inspired by the depth and natural variation of traditional Fuki Urushi lacquer work, it gives KAGURA a distinctive presence while retaining the dependable performance expected from a modern Fiber Do Dai.

KAGURA also introduces our brand new Anniversary Sangai Matsu Mune design. Personally selected by KendoStar founder Andy Fisher as his favourite traditional Mune design, it was chosen to represent our tenth anniversary and the beginning of the next chapter of KendoStar.

The Anniversary Sangai Matsu will debut with KAGURA and will also be available as a Mune option across KendoStar Bogu sets going forwards.
