TOUKON is a deluxe Shinai, which features a balanced 'Dou' section similar to our basic practice Shinai. In addition to its excellent balance, TOUKON also has an oval-grip, which makes gripping the Shinai correctly easy, and gives a similar feel to a real Japanese sword. Each TOUKON Shinai is made from a single bamboo plant, which provides the four slats with the best flexibility and durability.

It is a fantastic shinai! I bought this one after only using the round grip shinais from our dojo after watching Andy‘s whole video on the different shinais. The oval grip really helped me fixing my hand position when gripping the shinai. It is top quality and feels really good! Highly recommend it :)
I never had a koban-gata shinai before, so I'm not sure how the Toukon would compare to other shinai with a comparable tsuka shape. What I can say is that the Toukon feels intuitive to use and is easy to get used to. I have small hands, but that's not an issue with this shinai. Any shinai with a non-standard tsuka shape has limited options to rotate the take, but I'll have to wait and see how this will actually affect the shinai's life-span.

Surprisingly effective I was curious about how the oval grip would affect my ability to wield the shinai in general, so I bought it to try it out. At first it was a bit weird, but I almost immediately got used to it and realized how much easier it was to align my strikes, I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a more "katana-like" feeling to give to their shinai

I am very pleased The shinai feels very good and comfortable in my hands. In my case, the oval grip leads to more accurate and confident strokes than with a round grip. Perfectly fits in the hands Very convenient
Easy to grip correctly As a beginner, this is only the 3rd shinai I try. The oval grip really helps to hold the shinai correctly when during geiko it may move uncorrectly.
First Shinai This is my first shinai, and I love it. I love the feel of it in my hand, everything about it feels very high quality. Great product!
Almost perfect A really good balance and the oval grip helps me correct my grip. I now use this shinai for waza and I find it also helps with my technique as the weight is more evenly spread compared to a dobari. The only issue I have is the tsuka's asymmetric shape; oval at the bottom and gradually becoming round near the tsuba.
Great Shinai I like to try different types of shinai in order to know which one could be better for me. This one really surprised me, so immediatly confortable and natural in hands. Only tries it once, but it surprised the other kenshi as I was more relax and more focused to my partners. Wonderful quality, great informations of the shipping details. All good !
Love this oval-grip shinai This is my first shinai as an absolute beginner in kendo. Not an expert yet in reviewing many technical details on it. But I'm really happy about the feeling of holding it and have been practicing every session with it.

My go-to shinai This is my second oval-grip shinai. I really love the feeling in hand as I don't need to worry about alignment. Quality is great and the shinai is sturdy and stands up to regular use.
Top quality bamboo paired with a nice grip I ordered this shinai because i wanted to try a different grip style after practicing with a round one for almost a year. I am still amazed how much of a difference this actually makes, is definitely a different feel. The quality is, as always with kendostar, top grade and i can easily recommend this to anyone.

Oval grip for the win! Not only does this Shinai have perfect balance, the oval grip makes it super easy to maintain the correct posture. As a beginner I have not had the change to use the shinai with kote yet, but looking forward to it. I can definitely recommend the oval grip if you struggle with getting the posture correct with the round grip.

Amazing with the oval grip! I was recommended to try this type of shinail because I was "struggling" to get a good grip with my left hand. I have to say, from now on I will use this type of shinai..! If you have smaller hands and have difficulty getting a good grip, I really recommend trying this type of shinai. Fantastic shinai with an good balance!

Oval Grip Shinai 90% is always my top score because nothing is perfect, but this shinai comes close. It immediately feels different especially if your hands are smaller like mine. Beautiful sword I have no kendo experience and this as well is my very first shinai just to get my practice feeling proper but I want to say this is a beautifully crafted sword, it arrived four days quicker than it would have, the weight is comfortable, the handle feels just like a real sword. I can feel the passion put into making this It almost demands respect, and I am so excited to start my Kendo journey once everything opens back up. Excellent technical knowledge and swift service I bought this shinai as a "present" for my wife who hasn't practiced kendo in a VERY long time. After a few questions with very prompt answers I chose the ladies 39 shinai as it is fitted with a "38" tsuka. The oval grip feels a bit unusual, but I can see the advantage in stopping the shinai rotating in the hands. This one came in at 445 grammes, so only 5 grammes over the minimum weight. Feels a bit unusual to her because "back in the day" the only options available were either the shorter 38, or the 39 with no weight difference between men and women. Very nice fittings. Bit of a shame that I can't use it! Placed the order and followed up with a confirming email. Notified of dispatch the same day and delivered the following day. Well done!
