Still needed
Unfortunately they are still needed. Only Kendostar was able to send us the amount we needed. Also they are easier to insert as some from Germany.
Why didn't we use these before?
Although it was recommended for COVID19 safety, it's generally a good idea having this shield to prevent any unwanted saliva from spraying your training partners.
Good protection
Easy to fit and you do not feel it during training. Not sure it is very efficient to protect but mandatory at the dojo.
Good point to be able to mix the sizes under request (even adult and kid) in the same pack.
Good material and perfect fit
I bought the bundle set of three masks more than a year ago and I cannot be more happy with them. The material is good and the fit on the mengane is perfect. It adds an extra layer of protection which, together with the fabric mask, makes you feel more protected during keiko.
What expected
The guard is what it looks in the pictures, I'd rather prefer it in total transparent material but it comes in a blueish color. It works fine.
Does the job
It works as an extra layer of protection that fits the bottom portion of the men. It fits well, does not fog and don't even notice it's there.
Should be used together with a tenugui or facemask and a bit of common sense.
Well, it fits...and it comes out
This is quite a thick piece of plastic that fits snugly into the bottom of the men. It's also easy enough to remove for cleaning. It does offer the obvious advantage over other full-face plastic shields in that because there is no upper part, it doesn't fog, so for those reasons, I've given it five stars.
How effective it is as a level of protection to limit the potential spread of saliva droplets is questionable, but if you read the caveat above and watch Andy's video, he would be the first to admit this. Personally, I would advocate it's use in conjunction with a "men mask" as suggested by the All Japan Kendo Federation and NOT in isolation, as on its own, it won't stop anything.
It works
You won't even notice it, I've used it with a facemask.
Compared to the full face screens it is much better from a confort point of view. The full face screen make the men a resonance box, and kiai is very unconfortable
Added layer of safety for peace of mind
These are scary times and no one wants to get sick, or be the one to get others sick with the COVID-19 disease. These plastic men masks gives one an extra layer of safety and peace of mind!
Works just fine
Clips in place easily and is secure. It's a little strange feeling your breath as it bounces back at you, but you get used to it. I also wear glasses under my men and the nice thing is that it doesn't cause them to steam up.
The last thing to note (which I'm sure everyone's already realised) is that they're not actually blue, that's just the protective film on the plastic.
