HACHIMAN is a Premium Madake Dobari Shinai, which features a large 'Dou' section, placing the balance close to the hands, and narrows to a fine light, tip. This makes HACHIMAN easy to manoeuvre, and perfect for multiple, sharp strikes. HACHIMAN is one of the best balanced Shinai available.
Unlike other Shinai, HACHIMAN is an oval HAKKAKU 'Koban' style Shinai, which means that the handle has been carved into an elliptical-octagon shape - which is feels very comfortable in the hands, and gives a unique feeling when held. This style was developed a few years ago, and is the choice of many high level Sensei.

Love this large octagonal grip! Balance feels fantastic. Even lighter in the tip compared to other dobari shinai such as HIBANA.

My first shinai with oval grip! Very good balance

Bien fait
De très beau shinai facile à prendre en main. Personnellement je préfère les poignées ronde et large. Mais j'ai voulu quand même les essayer. J'ai eu aucune misère à faire de heureux dans mon club de kendo en les revendant.

Good grip but can’t be reassembled
While I was initially pleased with the shinai, when I did maintenance on it and separated the staves, I found that the metal piece at the base does not hold the shinai together properly, as a result, I was unable to put it back firmly and now the handle feels vey loose as the staves are not held in place by the metal piece, still a very decent shinai but I cannot give any higher than 3 stars due to this manufacturing defect that I hope I am the only one affected

excellent oval handled shinai
High quality oval handled shinai which are a real pleasure to use. As someone else commented, repairing a broken take is a pain but that is the only downside.

great shinai, but...
It is a great shinai and I am enjoying it for Jodan (really nice grip for katate). The downside it the difficulty in repairing and exchanging damaged take.

Size fit and finish are perfect
These Shinai match up perfectly with the short Saburi shinai. The short shinai has a slightly shorter handle making it feel nose heavy. When you switch to practice with this one the balance is perfect. Both having the oval grip makes it an easy transition back and forth for strength training and muscle memory.

Octagonal shinai
I took these shini on Andy Sensei,s advice the larger handle really helped relax my grip.
The handle is slightly larger not massive enough to make a big difference.
Would recommend to anyone.
Good price as well really quality shinai.
Will be buying these as long as kendostar sells them.
