The SHUNZAN Large Short Grip Shinai brings together two grip features that rarely meet. The Dobari body, fuller through the lower section, the thinner Jissengata tip, and the thicker Tsuka all draw the balance towards the hands for a light swing, while the shorter Tsuka adds crispness at the moment of impact.

Its name, 瞬斬, means instant cut. Like every model in the Premium range, SHUNZAN is made to your specification: choose your fittings and Tsuru colour, or order the bamboo only.

Light Swing, Crisp Strike

The Dobari body, the thinner tip, and the thicker Tsuka all bring the balance closer to the hands, so SHUNZAN swings out lightly. The shorter Tsuka then gives the strike its crispness, a combination that makes this a highly specialised handling option.

It suits attacking Kendoka who keep up relentless pressure to unsettle the opponent, then choose the moment for a decisive strike.

All our Shinai are made according to the All Japan Kendo Federation and International Kendo Federation standards. The weight below is the minimum and the length the maximum set out in the All Japan Kendo Federation guidelines for this size.

Bamboo contains natural oil that dries out over time. To help your Shinai keep its proper weight, please oil it regularly.

Who Is SHUNZAN For?

SHUNZAN is for attacking Kendoka who want a light swing and a crisp strike, and who like the feel of a thicker, shorter grip.

It is a highly specialised Shinai, best suited to experienced Kendoka who know exactly the grip they prefer.

Choose Your Fittings

Fitted options are supplied fully assembled, with Tsuka, Sakigawa, Nakayui, and a Tsuru in your chosen colour. The options differ only in the Tsuka: the other parts are the same. Or order the bamboo only and fit your own.
