The KENSEI White Jodan Shinai is made for Kendoka who take Jodan no Kamae. Its Tsuka is longer than standard, so the right hand's push works effectively in each strike: approximately 36cm on men's size 39.

Within the KENSEI Standard range, each model is identified by the colour of its 剣星 mark, and this model carries the mark in white, 白.

A Longer Grip for Jodan

Fighting from Jodan changes how the hands work on the Shinai, and the longer Tsuka is made to allow for that. It lets the right hand push effectively when striking.

The extra length is not simply a longer leather Tsuka: the bamboo itself is shaped for it, so the grip does not become too thick under the right hand and the Shinai stays well balanced, with its weight towards the hands.

All our Shinai are made according to the All Japan Kendo Federation and International Kendo Federation standards. The weights below are the minimum and the lengths the maximum set out in the All Japan Kendo Federation guidelines for each size.

Bamboo contains natural oil that dries out over time. To help your Shinai keep its proper weight, please oil it regularly.

KENSEI White is for Kendoka who take Jodan no Kamae and want a Shinai built for it, with a longer grip that supports the right hand in every strike.

It is the successor to our TENGU Shinai, and the best pick if you appreciate TENGU.
